Wentworth CC

Honor Virtutis Praemium 1876

Welcome to the Wentworth Cricket Club ECB Play Cricket Website.

Wentworth CC are a long standing local community village cricket team with a history dating as far back as 1876 when the club was first founded. The team currently plays its home games in the SYSCL Division Four at Clayfield Lane in the centre of the beautiful village of Wentworth, the home of the famous and historic Wentworth Woodhouse, just outside Rotherham.

Wentworth CC Currently operates three teams. We have our first team who play on Saturdays in the SYSCL Division Four under team captain Daniel Laister and we also operate a T20 midweek team who play in Division Two of the Rotherham Midweek League under the captaincy of Chris Ferris. From the 2015 season onwards we now also operate a Sunday team in Division Three of the BDCL Sunday League known as Fitzwilliam CC in conjuction with our local neighbours Scholes CC under the Captaincy of Dave Watson.

Both our Saturday and Midweek teams have been quite successful in recent times with several promotions gained and league titles won on Saturdays as well as an appearance in the final of the Billy Oates cup in 2015. We have also reached the final of the cup in the midweek league.

The ground itself, which can be found just behind the Rockingham Arms pub, is one of the most stunning and picturesque grounds in the whole of South Yorkshire. On a hot and sunny summers day coupled with the local surroundings and scenery there are few better places to be.

Being on the small side the ground usually provides exciting high scoring games with some big hitting especially during the midweek T20 games.

The facilities at the ground are fantastic and include mobile nets, push on wicket covers and modern up to date sightscreens as well as a state of the art artificial wicket newly installed in 2016 so we are more than capable of providing good quality cricket on good wickets throughout the season. Whatever nature may throw at us.

It is at this point we must thank our generous sponsor Wentworth Garden Centre who are a successful family run business and have been at the heart of the village for over 25 years. We as a club are now very proud and honoured to associated with such a well known name and to carry that name on our playing shirts. We thank them for their continued support and look forwards to a long and successful partnership for both parties.

The aim as a team for the future is to continue our growth as a squad and improve upon our success on the field. The only way this can be done is to continually attract players to the club.

No matter your age or ability if you are interested in playing for Wentworth CC or simply wish to make any contact then do not hesitate to get in touch with us by speaking to first team captain Daniel Laister on 07852587098 or Through our Twitter and Facebook pages @WentworthCC1876 and Wentworth Cricket Club on Facebook.

We are a friendly family orientated club and ALL new players will be made to feel welcome.

Good Luck to all teams this season in their leagues from all at Wentworth CC.
